MERIDA, MUSEUM
The prism-monolith of the Museo di Visigoth art in Merida, "internalizes" the presence of great archaeological signs of the city of Merida, and the directions of these signs, which by carving the monolith produce the "fractures" that become the symbolic and emotional heart of the project: the large central void around which the exhibition is articulated.
The most important of these "fractures" is represented by the trace of the aqueduct, which cuts vertically the volume of the museum, separating the exhibition area from the more technical part of the museum services (such as administrative management area, restoration places...).
The exhibition path and emotional focus of the museum is the pedestrian ramp that winds in a loop around the large central reservoir, giving access to the entire exhibition area: the visitor is forced to pass through the different exhibition areas, that will bring him in contact with the archaeological remains and at the same time to live very strong architectural and emotional experiences: the ramp is a journey back in time, according to the chronological sense of the evolution of art, which is never regular and continuous but has frequent interruptions.
